July 1861,was the first battle of Manassas-this was expected to be a very short battle, each side thought the other would back off at the first fire. Spectators followed the troops to sit at on hill top to watch the first fire. By the end of the first day over 900 men had died- this was not going to be a short war. August 1862 was the second Manassas lasting 3 days and 3300 lives lost. The Confederacy won this battle....
