Camp Totonaka Mexican Cooking Class of 07
Our Field Trip to Guaymas

Our campground gives free Mexican cooking classes twice a week. They are a lot of fun. This week we learned about all the different chilies and how to make fresh salsa, next week the class is all about Mexican cheeses. We take the city bus to the Mercado in Guaymas to buy fresh ingredients for our salsa. Maria our leader gave us a complete tour of the Mercado.

Here we are buying all of our ingredients. Then we head back to the campground and all begin to make our salsas for the tasting party!

Pearl Farm Tour
This is the pearl farm. We had a short tour and found a few interesting facts about pearls. It takes about 3 1/2 years to cultivate a pearl. Very labor intensive! This is the only place in the world where the rainbow pearls come from. I did not know there were rainbow pearls.

The workers remove the bags of oysters and clean the shell so the oyster is free to open and close. The fellow in the back checks each of the cleaned oysters and puts them back into the cage and this process is repeated again and again until you have a pearl.

After our tour at the pearl farm, we found this charming little beach restaurant and had nice lunch and a pleasant walk on the beach.

OUR FISHING STORY...and we are stickin to it!!!
Here we are 4 hopefulls- Looking for the Big One- We left the boat dock at 8 am for a 3 hour tour, hmm where have I heard that phrase before? It was just the four of us on the boat . Looking back I think other passengers cancelled because of the weather. When we hit the open sea the swells were pretty bad the boat was rocking and heaving and what did we find in the water.....The Captian notices there is a boat adrift no one around, there was a sailboat up ahead, it could have been his dingy he may have lost it due to the conditions of the sea. We stop and haul the boat in our boat with the help of both Johns. I was trying to hold on for dear life and was not thinking about taking pictures it was kind of comical trying to get that boat in ours between the size of the boat and our boat rocking wildly. Luckily know fell overboard!! If you click on the picture it will enlarge it and you can tell how rough the sea was.Fianlly the boat is aboard- and we wonder is this the Big Catch of the Day!!! This boat is a fold a boat. It held up pretty well considering the conditions of the Sea. All tho I would not have wanted to be in this boat. The only person who knew how to fold this boat was John C- after the boat was folded and stowed away- we took off looking for fish. We didn't have too much luck in the open water, I think due to the swells, we even had a hard time getting the anchor to catch. Our Captain did manage to find a cove for us to fish in and we all caught plenty of fish. We caught Perch, Sea Bass, Triger Fish, Macrel. John R caught the first fish, John C caught the last fish of the day, and Betsy caught two fish at a time. I caught a couple, but, I got very sea sick. By the time we finished fishing and found the cove for Lunch my stomach settled down.
After about 3 hours of fishing we stopped and the Captian and his first mate took all the fish we caught and cooked us up some wonderful fish tacos......
We had a great trip with great friends!!

Kino Bay RV Park
We arrived in Kino Bay this afternoon. We are very happy with the campground we chose. The drive in was great the roads were much better than I had expected and the scenery was just wonderful. We spent about an hour at KM 21 getting all our papers in order, then we were on our way. We did run into some fog early this morning, but after the fog cleared it was clear sailing.

Jorges on the Beach

I told you we would be in town just in time for happy hour
